Getting started is easy!
If you're a Society member, log in. If you're not a member, join up! (Then yes, come back here and log in.)
Find an article to start or edit:
- Here's a list of articles that others have marked as "stubs" -- brief entries that probably need some wiki love. They're short.
- This list is a bunch of articles that have been linked to, but don't yet exist. You could get one of them off the ground. (By the way, these are called "redlinks.")
- Use the search box at the upper left of any page. The "Go" button will look for a page that has your search term as the title; if there isn't one, you'll be presented with a clean page to get started. "Search" will find all the instances of your term among the articles.
The most important thing is to have courage: you know plenty about food, you eat it every day! Share your knowledge. The articles don't have to be long, and they don't have to be complete -- every contribution counts. If you are worried that it's too short, put {{Stub}} at the end of your entry to encourage others to add to it.
But I Don't Know What I'm Doing!
The best way to learn is to try! One of the great strengths of a wiki is that it's always "under construction," and what you write doesn't have to be perfect. We do, however, have some topics that might be helpful:
- Editing an article
- How to cite sources
- In fact, we have a whole page of help pages. It's here.
Remember: have courage! Dive in!
